9/22/14 – 2014-2015 Volunteer Applications

Thank you for attending an information session to learn about what we do. Please fill out the proper application (make sure they say 2014-2015) for the program that you’re interested in! If you are interested in joining multiple programs, feel free to submit more than one application. Please keep in mind that Resource Desk, FIT NUT, YEP, and Hablamos Juntos all require a fall quarter training class. Attendance is mandatory so please make sure there are no class conflicts. The times for the classes are:

Resource Desk: Wed 6-7:50 PM in Kerckhoff 131

FitNut: Wed 6-7:50 PM in Kerckhoff 133 & 135

YEP: Tues 6-8 PM in Geology 4660

Hablamos Juntos: Tuesdays 6-8 PM CHS 61-262

9/22/14 – Recruitment 2014-2015

Learn about how you can become involved in our mission to improve health service and education in our community! SCOPE has great training workshops and peer mentors that ensure a smooth entry for every new member.

SCOPE serves children and their families in our community through clinical resource service, health education, and mentoring. To gain CLINICAL experience, TEACHING & MENTORING experience, or PHYSICIAN SHADOWING opportunities, you can join us and choose the specific programs that meet your interests.

We will be at the activity fair on Tuesday, September 30th, come find us!

Our Info meeting will be on:
Wednesday, October 1st from 6-7:30 PM  or
Thursday, October 2nd from 5-6:30 PM
Both info session are located at Kerckhoff hall meeting room – state rooms 131, 133, 135. You only need to attend one information session.

4/10/14 – Quarterly Checkup!

Mainly more events, besides the ones mentioned in the newsletter, also happened. For example, YEP went on an adventure to the zoo. The pictures have been uploaded.

1/5/14 – New year, New family; Retreat time!

Hope you had a good holiday! Now that SCOPE is back, we wanted to remind you of the retreat that’s coming up on the weekend of 1/18 (a three day weekend).

If you are interested in bonding more with your fellow volunteers or even just to have some fun, this retreat is for you! For only $30, you will be covered for food and living expenses for 2 nights and 3 days. Make sure to come out to the pre-retreat meeting on Friday 1/10 8pm at the SAC foyer.

10/14/13 – Hablamos Juntos

We are adding a new program to SCOPE!

Hablamos Juntos (Talking Together) is a new class for parents of children with speech delays. A UCLA team of doctors and students has partnered with Westside Children’s Center to bring this free program to parents who want to improve their children’s speech. Speech delay is a common problem that can lead to poor social development and school performance. Come join us in the opportunity to teach in a Spanish-speaking classrooms! Opportunities to teach in English-speaking classrooms are coming soon!

4/1/13 – Save the date

But there are some interesting events coming up so make sure you save the date!
1) Physician shadowing applications for this quarter have been sent out!
2) Volunteer appreciation is coming up. It will be on Sunday, April 14th from 10 AM – 3PM. This will be a fun day to enjoy the sun and appreciate the members.
3) Fitnut is having their olympic day and they need volunteers. An email with more detail will be sent to you soon!

Do you want to volunteer for the health fair?

01/07/13 – New year, new events! SAVE THE DATE

Save the date for February 23rd 2013 (Saturday) from 10 – 3 as that is the day of the Health Fair that we will be involved with. You will soon be notified of the roles you can play as a SCOPE volunteer should you decide to sign up. These roles include helping physicians with charts or volunteering at activity booths where you get to play and teach little kids. It’s a rewarding experience and you get an additional opportunity to experience the forefront of public health and have a direct interaction with those in the community.

*TRANSPORTATION WILL BE PROVIDED!

12/03/12 – Winter Signups at sites for Resource Desk!

Signups have been emailed out to returning resource desk volunteers! As for new volunteers, keep an eye out for them in your inboxes. They’ll be emailed to you sometime this week. If your clearance forms have not yet been turned it, TURN THEM IN!

Scope is also ordering brotanks. If you’re interested in one, email: scope.prcoord@gmail.com.
They will be sold for $12! Please email ASAP

Here are the brotanks, the color is the BLUE, but the style is the green. They will be american apparel brotanks with the SCOPE logo (ignore those square frames around the logo, that’s just from the site that we’re making them on. The real shirt will not have those).

10/25/12 -Physician Shadowing Applications:

SCOPE’s Physician Shadowing Program is finally back in action! Starting this year, shadowing will only be 4 weeks out of the quarter so that more students can take advantage of this opportunity while allowing volunteers to gain sufficient experience. For Fall 2012, shadowing will begin during Week 6 up until Week 9. We will have shifts available from Monday through Friday starting at 1:30pm at 200 Med Plaza. If accepted, SCOPE volunteers are expected to attend one orientation session before attending their weekly shift for 4 weeks. For more details, please see the attached application. Send the completed application to scope@ucla.edu by Saturday, October 27th at 5:00pm. Good Luck!
